Dear friends –
For the quirky movie fans out there, you may remember, You, Me and DuPree. Matt Dillon and Owen Wilson, who play best friends in the movie, are having a conversation about essence. Wilson’s character, DuPree, keeps referring to Dillon’s character’s Carl-ness.
Carl: What’s with this Carlness? It’s not even a real word….
DuPree: It’s a verb. It’s a conjunction. A preposition. It’s a philosophy. A way of life. It’s your name with “ness” attached to it.
I’ve been meaning to ask you… what makes you, you? This is one of the questions from our summer series, and I’m in love with it. It’s like asking, what’s your (insertyournamehere)ness? What makes you, you? Part of being River Glen 2.0 means asking more than, How’s it going? It means we have some idea of the unique and wonderful ways God had created us, paying better attention in our interactions so we know one another more fully, which helps us be better listeners in the world and widen our compassion.
Join us for part II of “where are you from” on Sunday – hope to see you and all of your you-ness soon!
Grace and peace,
Jess
